Cody and Ashley are parents to an adorable little girl named Arya and the three of them are members of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Cody earned his Bachelors in Public Administration from Northern Michigan University, where he also served two terms as the student body President. In addition to this, Cody was also elected to the Board of Directors for Marquette's brewing cooperative, Drifa Brewing Company.

He has been an enlisted soldier for over five years now and currently holds the rank of Sergeant. Cody's showed how much he cares for the upper peninsula when he volunteered to assist the Houghton community when a state-of-emergency was called during the floods in 2018. Cody immediately volunteered and was activated with in 48 hours.

Cody is a youth leader in the community as the former two term student body President of Northern Michigan University representing and leading over 7,000 students while working closely with faculty and administrators on numerous committees. As President he focused on and achieved real results in the following key areas, youth voting rights, assisting NMU's veteran students, campus mental health, connecting NMU with the Marquette community, sustainability, and diversity.
